A Temporary Update

Hiiiiii! It feels like forever since the last time I published a blog post on here. Here's a quick lil update on what I've been up to in the past year or so .     First of all, I ended my gap year and started my freshman year of college. For those of you out there contemplating taking a gap year, I couldn't recommend it enough. It allowed me to explore who I was as person, while also expanding my perspective on the world in general. It was a rollercoaster year of joining the labor force full time for the first time, traveling, and making loads of memories with friends. I am a completely different person at the end of the gap year than I was as the beginning     Secondly, starting college. Whew. It's been a lot. While gap year was super fun, I got realllyyyy comfy not doing ANY schoolwork. The first semester was a huge adjustment, but I would also partially contribute that to the fact that it was also my first time not living at home. Living in the dorms was

February Goals

Image
Before this post really gets started, can we talk about how January is over already? It feels like it just whizzed on by with hardly a hello. I can't be the only person that feels this way, right? Anyway, I really enjoy writing the monthly goals post at the beginning of each month, and now that I am uploading once a week (well, almost once a week) I feel like I should definitely be able to do one of these every month.    So. My goals for this month. - Decorate my room...again. I feel like I'm constantly changing up how my room looks, but I find I am much more inspired and relaxed in a fresh living environment. Right now I am really enjoying decorating with flowers, which is a bit odd since flower decorations have ~never~ been my thing. However, I made a banner using dried flowers and quotes with watercolor flowers, and loved how it turned out, so I think that has inspired me to experiment more with flowers. This month I want to decorate one of my walls wit

Breakfast On The Go: Yogurt Granola Popsicles

Personally, I feel like having to wake up early in the morning takes enough effort without having to spend a bunch of time making breakfast. However, breakfast is a very important meal and can impact how the rest of your day goes. So, even though I don't want to spend a lot of time on it, I do want to make sure that I am eating something that is healthy and will boost my energy. Currently, one of my favorite breakfast options is a yogurt granola popsicle. It's essentially a yogurt parfait but frozen, which is perfect for me as I don't typically like the consistency of yogurt. This recipe is extremely easy and perfect to make for yourself or with kids. Makes 6 serving Prep Time: 10 minutes Freeze Overnight ~What You Will Need~ 1/2 cup Granola: it doesn't matter what type, just use whatever is your favorite.  12 - 32 oz Yogurt: again, whichever your favorite type or flavor is. Greek works as well as regular yogurt. Optional: 10 blackberries, or fruit of yo

Gain Motivation, Lose Procrastination

Image
Dragging yourself out of bed in the morning and getting on with your day is incredibly difficult, no, nearly impossible, for some people. I am one of those people. On top of that, I am an expert level procrastinator. However, depressing as it is, I have found that getting up early helps me to get more things accomplished. So, here are a few of the things I do to help me get motivated in the groggy mornings without procrastinating my day away.  1) Set your alarm according to your natural sleep cycle. Everyone has certain amounts of time during the night/morning when they are in a heavier or lighter sleep period. If you set your alarm during one of the lighter sleep periods, it will be MUCH easier to get up in the morning. If you don't know when those times are you can use an app that will track it for you or you can learn it from trial and error and seeing if you repeatedly feel more tired or awake when you wake up at specific times. 2) Plan something you enjoy f

Exercising?

Everyone that knows me knows that exercising is just not something that I do...but I'm trying to change that! I've gone through phases in my life where I exercise a ridiculous amount for around a month, but then I stop completely. Then I convince myself that I have exercised enough for the next couple of months, which I then spend sitting on a couch. Yes, I do realize it is problematic and definitely not healthy. So, in my journey in trying to live a healthier, more fulfilled life, I am creating an exercise routine. Shocking I know. My goal is to make a very simple plan that will be easy to follow and where I won't be able to make hundreds of excuses (I'm sure I'll still be able to come up with at least ten).   ~First~ I am going to take a walk each day. This isn't remarkably strenuous, and can actually be very therapeutic. I try not to listen to music or go with other people so that it is just

New Year's Resolutions: 2018

Image
While 2017 may not have been the best year on a national or global scale, it ended up being a great year on a personal scale. It started off to a rough beginning, but ended up having a massive turn around about half-way through the year concluding with me having a total perspective and attitude shift for the better. It was a year of self-discovery and pursuing things I love. A year of learning more about the world around me, and a year of learning to give back. So, I have high but realistic hopes going into 2018 that the year will be at least as good as the end of 2017 was and that I will continue growing as a person. My resolutions for 2018 are a little different from my usual ones, but I am excited for them. My Motto for 2018      First we'll start off with my personal motto and reminder for the year: life may not get easier, but it can get better . It's kind of simplistic and cheesy, but I think it's a positive twist on the depressing reminder that l

Chocolate Covered Oreos

This is my first post with a Christmas theme! I'm a bit excited. I have a little party I'm going to tomorrow, and I wanted to bring some sort of cute Christmas treat. After spending way more hours than necessary on Pinterest I noticed a lot of people having some type of varied chocolate covered Oreos. I loved the idea (even though I don't even like Oreos) and decided to make my own!                                        ~ Ingredients ~ 1 pack of Oreos (shocking I know) 1 bag of Candy Melts (I used the Dark Cocoa ones)                                    ~ Optional Toppings ~ Crushed candy canes...I found it was easiest to crush them up by putting them in a Ziploc bag and repeatedly hitting them with a metal spoon Writing icing in your colors of choice                                         ~ Directions ~ Melt the chocolate in the microwave (in a microwave safe dish!). I would recomm
